Mt Hagen has lost it gloss

Letters

MOUNT Hagen City looks very clean, neat and tidy after intensive cleaning up by the Seventh-day Adventist church of Western SDA Mission.
The SDA Mission is one of those churches which has contributed to the development of this country.
This is the third time it has cleaned Mt Hagen, which was in a total mess.
The amount of work that has been done is huge.
Church members contributed their dump trucks, backhoes, forks, and bought bush knives to help.
They had spades, forks, rags, brooms, empty bags and they worked tirelessly the whole day, even though it was raining.
This work was done for the good of the city and for the health of the people in city.
Now our city looks bright and clean.
Mt Hagen was once a beautiful province and tourist destination because of its colorful culture and costumes, especially during the famous Mt Hagen Cultural shows which attracted many foreign tourists.
Today all the good things about Mt Hagen has gone.
It is usually dirty because of our careless “I don’t care attitude” which has damaged the good name of the province.
Pick-pocketing and street vending are common.
I appeal to all people in Western Highlands, no matter where we each have come from, to stand up and fight against littering, pick-pocketing and street vending.
Let us not wait for our local leaders to come and help us.
Let’s do what we can for the province. I also acknowledge the Lutheran congregation for their part in cleaning the city during the commemoration of Dr Martin Luther.
Please, let’s keep Mt Hagen clean.
