LOCAL MP William Duma provided K60,000 to Mt Hagen Rugby League last week as part of his yearly support towards the competition and players of his electorate.
From the K60,000, he gave K2,000 each to all 12 clubs, more than K8,000 to the league committee, K9,000 for pre-season awards, K4,500 to the highlands zone trials and more than K14,000 for administration costs.
Duma, who is also the Minister for State Enterprise, said even before being elected into Parliament, he had been supporting sports to help sportsmen and women become agents of change for their people.
Mt Hagen city manager Jim Pena said apart from the cash, the league had been asked to submit its jersey cost for the trials at a later date.
League treasurer Gabriel Nema thanked Duma for his continued support.
He said the support would help players make their rugby league dreams come true.
League secretary Joe Kanua said Hagen league was the premier rugby league competition of Western Highlands and the support would help the management complete the season properly.
“Funding is the key to everything you do and Duma’s continued assistance will help the league and teams in a big way,” he said.
