UPSETS were the order of the day in the Ox & Palm Women’s National Soccer League last weekend in Port Moresby and Lae.
In Port Moresby, Vats Yamaros tamed the high-flying Mungkas 2-0.
In front of franchise owner Charles Aopi, the girls from Gerehu wasted no time in making their presence felt against the competition leaders.
Striker Samantha Peninsa, Flossy Makeu and skipper Miriam Lanta continuously forced their way into their opponents’ territory.
Former PNG women’s representative Peninsa is making a comeback after a long recess and determined to force her way into the national side.
However, she seemed to be at loggerheads with her former teammate Cathy Salaiau of Mungkas.
Mungkas who proved to be a professional outfit had to fly in players from Madang and Lae to back their campaign.
Madang’s Ramona Morris and Lae’s Dorcas Honekeii were valuable players but they lacked the support of their teammates.
In the other women’s match, University drew 1-1 with Hekari and  should go back to the drawing board if they are serious about defending their crown as Port Moresby champions.
They had all the national players at their disposal but they need to be more organised to play well and win their games.
Coach Leslie Babaga should work on his first 11 players and ensure they attack because it they lacked skills in that area. New players might be needed to boost their campaign when the season resumes in the New Year.
With the best coaches in the side such as  Robert Popat and John Davani, University do not need to look further but improve their performance to win matches.
In Lae, reigning champions Bara went down to Poro 2-0 and PNG edged Bulolo FC 3-2.
