MUNGKAS FC dominated University Inter FC on Saturday to win 6-1 in a replay of last year’s grand final of the Port Moresby Soccer Association men’s premier division.
Competition manager Paul Karambi described Mungkas as a club that had faith in their young charges to deliver.
“Those players went on the field and performed,” Karambi said.
“They didn’t have any senior players but they did what their coach David Passam told them to do.
“I think University relied too much on their old players to step up and the game was open for both sides to win.
“But when they conceded some goals, their morale went down.
“We saw Mungkas dominating through the middle and that’s why they finished off with a big win.”
In the other match on Saturday, PS Ruts and FC Genesis played out a 1-1 draw.
“FC Genesis were tipped to win, considering they had experienced players like Andrew Lepani and Michael Foster,” Karambi said.
“The young PS Ruts lost a lot of senior players to other teams, but that didn’t stop them from putting up a strong performance.”
Meanwhile in the women’s premier matches, Guria FC proved strong for Mainum FC winning 2-0, and PS Ruts forfeited Morobe United.
