Mungkas men, women win PMSA’s Easter challenge
THE Bisini Football Park came alive during the long Easter weekend when Port Moresby Soccer Association hosted its 2018 Easter challenge.
Mungkas team one (men’s division) and Mungkas women came out champions.
In the men’s final, the team from the Autonomous Region of Bougainville walked away with the 2018 PMSA Easter Challenge Trophy after a hard-fought battle against PS Ruts.
It was not easy for the Mungkas boys as the spectators watched anxiously as both sides were locked at 1-1 forcing the game into extra time.
It was in the last three minutes of extra time that Mungkas scored the winner.
However, the young PS Ruts outfit dominated play for most of the game but the Mungkas stayed in touch to equalise and take game into extra time.
In the women’s final, Mungkas beat University 2-1 in a penalty shoot-out.
PMSA president John Wesley Gonjuan thanked all the participating teams for making the 2018 PMSA Easter Challenge a success, especially the new teams including 8-Mile United and Kaukana United. He said the Easter Challenge had fared well with 40 teams taking part this year – 32 men’s teams and eight women’s teams.
The three-day competition ran smoothly with no problems.
Meanwhile, Gonjuan also announced that the PMSA season would kick off on April 21 with clubs expected to be organised (players, uniforms and registration) and ready to play by then.
