MUNGKAS FC are set to retain their Port Moresby Soccer Association’s Premier League title irrespective of the results from the two remaining rounds, according to competition manager Paul Karambi.
The David Passam-coached side remain unbeaten with 32 points.
Their closest rivals Keleruina are on 25 points.
Should Keleruina win the remaining matches and Mungkas lose theirs, the top spot will still be out of reach for the debutants from Central. Karambi said Keleruina and third-placed FC Genesis failed to win their games over the last two weekends, allowing Mungkas to distance themselves from the pack.
“If Keleruina and FC Genesis win, they will still fall short and I think everyone can clearly see that Mungkas are the champions already,” Karambi said. Unlike last year, Mungkas will retain their title at the completion of the regular rounds, as it was agreed earlier this year that the finals would be omitted.
FC Genesis having nothing to lose and will be throwing everything at Mungkas when they face off at the Bisini Soccer Grounds on Sunday.
The other Sunday match will see Keleruina take on Momase.
Saturday’s matches will see University Inter FC taking on Cosmos and Maclaren battling it out with PS Ruts.
Standings: Mungkas 32, Keleiruna 25, FC Genesis 19, UIFC 16, PS Ruts 15, Cosmos 8, Momase 7, Maclaren 6.
