A 40-YEAR-old man walked out of the Waigani Committal Court after it ruled that he was wrongly charged with murder.
The man was charged for the murder of Andipe Waliape of Komo, Southern Highlands, on Oct 12, along the Pari Road in the National Capital District.
The man, from Kombela village in Nipa, also in Southern Highlands, was arrested last Thursday in relation to the murder and remained in custody.
The court found the suspect was charged without proper identification by police for the crime and dismissed the case.
His lawyer told the court that police must identify persons properly before laying charges on them.
The lawyer said her client was charged for a crime he did not commit.
A police prosecutor admitted it was a case of mistaken identity.
Magistrate Cosmas Bidar told the prosecutor that this should not discourage police from doing their duties but urged them to do their job responsibly.
