SBS Mendi Muruks need a win to get their season on the right track when they host Kongo Coffee Simbu Warriors in Lae on Sunday.
With two consecutive away loses, the Muruks, who have closed ranks on the media, have struggled to find a winning combination.
Last week’s one-point loss to the Enga Mioks in Wabag was disappointing to the former three-time champions who had a better team on paper but failed to get the win.
Muruks have made a habit of getting into life and death struggles with nearly all opposition so far this season with the majority of their wins and losses within the six-point range.
The former champions’ must step up their defence and attack particularly with their ability to put inferior opposition away.
However, the Warriors, with a moral boosting 26-12 win over the NGIP Agmark Gurias last weekend, are eager to add another big scalp this round but will have to stop a desperate Muruks outfit who will go out in full force this weekend to register a win after two consecutive losses.
Warriors have not won away yet this season and will not want to make this a habit and will try to contain the Southern Highlanders at their adopted homeground.
Warriors chairman Jerry Kapka was pleased with his side’s last win but said they had yet to establish consistency in their performances.
But the Muruks are gunning for a win to keep their title hopes alive.
Meanwhile, the Hela Wigmen will face another examination this time by the Gurias at  Kalabond Oval in Kokopo while WGS Mt Hagen Eagles will fancy themselves against the in-form Port Moresby Stop N Shop Vipers when they face off at the Kagamuga Show ground in Mt Hagen.
