Muruks duo to lead Naikos in nines tourney

MENDI Muruks pair Warren Glare and Clent Lama will lead Lae-based Kande Naikos in this month’s Southern Highlands Nines rugby league tournament.
Former SP Hunters forward Glare told The National last week that the team were made up of Southern Highlanders.
He said the tournament was a great platform for upcoming talents to test themselves against semi-professional players.
“I am excited to lead Naikos to the tournament in Mendi,” Glare said.
“Lama said that he would join us, so that’s a bonus for us.
“For us to lead the team is not about winning, but about sharing our experiences with the younger generation and raw talents back home.
“Digicel Cup or Hostplus Cup players have a positive impact when they come back and play alongside locals.
“We want to impart what we’ve learnt at different levels of rugby league.
“It’s a great tournament so we want to thank the organisers and sponsors.”
The Ialibu native said private citizens in Lae were happy to support the Naikos for their upcoming campaign.
“Lae-based Southern Highlands businessmen and individuals are more than willing to sponsor us,” Glare said.
“We are hoping for an exciting tournament.”
