PREPARATIONS for SBS Mendi Muruks for the Digicel Cup grand final this weekend was further boosted with an injection of K100,000 – courtesy of Southern Highlands Governor William Powi.
Powi, who is also a rugby league fan, said the people of Southern Highlands appreciated the efforts of the Muruks as true ambassadors of the province and the money was to assist them in preparation for final.
The Muruks will welcome the gesture by the provincial government after a hard season with club owner Thomas Higgins away on medical grounds.
Powi, who was the former administrator of the province, said the previous provincial government under his watch had allocated K2.5 million for rehabilitation on the Joe Keviame Oval at Tente.
He handed over the cheque to patron of Mendi Muruks Pastor Isaac Joseph at a brief ceremony in Port Moresby yesterday.
Pastor Joseph thanked Powi and the Southern Highlands provincial administration for his kind gesture.
He said Powi had supported rural competitions in Poroma, Nipa and Tari and was committed to developing sports in the province.
