THE Mendi Muruks are among the first Digicel Cup teams to name their training squad giving them a head start for the 2014 season.

This is after weeks of training and coaching clinics and 20 days of trial matches.

The Muruks management worked throughout the festive period to early January to identify talent from teams representing Gobe, Karinz, Magarima, Poroma, Kutubu, Imbonggu, Ialibu, Pangia, Kagua, Erave and Mendi.

Half the squad have not played Digicel Cup football while  former and returning Muruks make up the rest of the squad.

The squad is devoid of out and out big names but former Hela Wigmen five-eighth  Kewa Kili and returning Muruks prop Wer Mark are the only recognised names on the 2014 roster while fringe Digicel Cup players Leon Cletus (formerly of Enga Mioks), Isaac Mel (Mt Hagen Eagles) and Muruks veteran Joshua Molsie will bolster stocks.

The squad: Joshua Molsie, Kewa Kili, Wer Mark, Issac Mel, Jephat Pua, Allan Anton, Leon Cletus, Junior Rau, Richard Mapi, Robert Yako, Stanley Olo, Soki Sond, Samuel Samson, Joshia Keviame, Justin Ibne, Ape Nande, Cedric Ero, Joseph Bugandi, Robin Garry, Vincent Kink, Nathan Berry, Murphy Eddie, Wesley Vali, Joey Ambrose, O’Neil Ombiolu, Odias Kengi, Nelson Rami, Bradley Posu, Samuel Kili, David Lapua.

Selected players are to assemble this Friday in Mendi to start training in preparation for the Digicel Cup season which is expected kick off in April.
