Muruks plan to make improvements in Dabaris clash

MENDI Muruks are aiming for more improvement in their performance as they take on Central Dabaris in the Digicel Cup round-eight clash at the Oil Search National Football Stadium on Sunday (12:30pm kick-off).
Dabaris have only won one match in the season and they will face another tough challenge from the Roderick Puname-coached Muruks who are second on the 12-team competition ladder.
Puname said last week that his side would be looking to improve their combinations on Sunday.
“We brought over Joshia Jimmy from Kimbe Cutters and he played his first game with us,” Puname said.
“His kicking game is really good that’s why we got him. In the game against Dabaris we would want to see him gel well with his halves partner (Wesley Batari).
“There’s still improvement needed there. We have to get that combination right.”
Puname said fullback Dickson Pipi was consistent all season but he needed improvement in other areas of his game.
“Dickson’s kick returns and handling of high balls is outstanding. However, he needs to improve on his communication with halves especially in attack.
“The combination to link the halves with outside backs is not there so that’s something Dickson needs to work on in this game against the Dabaris.”
Puname was also impressed with winger Leon Undipia, especially with his strong carries and kick returns. He said Undipia had been consistent so far this season and he was expecting another great performance from him.
For the Dabaris, they have a strong pack that can match the Muruks in the battle up the middle of the park.
A Dabaris spine featuring Junior Belo, Nicky Hasu and Dobie Michael, will have to lift their game if they want to claim their second win of the season.
