Museum joins festival vibe with culture programme

LINES and patterns show links in cultures among Pacific Islanders, according to Patricia Sosori of the National Museum and Arts Gallery in Port Moresby.
In line with the 5th Melanesian Arts and Cultural Festival, the museum has come up with programmes for student participations so they can learn more about different cultures and how they may be linked with each other.
As part of Lines of Diversity Exhibition, which will be opened next Monday at the National
Museum and Art Gallery, the museum has invited some schools to attend the week-long programme which include painting and poem writing.
“This programme is aimed at educating students to appreciate their cultures and also to help them see how these cultures are linked to one other and how they have evolved over the years,” Sosori said.
“For paintings, the students were encouraged to paint and learn what painting was all about and what the lines connected and how they told a story.”
Sosori said in some ways, the Pacific Islands had links with each other and they could be seen in paintings and designs on artefacts.
