Music class

Education

The Indonesian Embassy in Port Moresby is reaching out to Papua New Guineans.
The embassy has been running classes in Bahasa Indonesia and Angklung traditional music as a way to present a glimpse of Indonesia and its people to those interested to understand PNG’s closest neighbour.
The language class is into its fifth Saturday and it is taught by a Papua New Guinean tutor.
The language and music classes are from Saturday, 9am to 11am.
Pictured are youths from Port Moresby learning Anklung last Saturday at the embassy.
The instrument they are using is called Anklung.
It is made of bamboo tubes attached to a bamboo frame.
The tubes are carved to have a resonant pitch when struck and are tuned to octaves, similar to Western handbells.
