The PNG modelling and music industries have shown their support to take part in the Royal Society of the Preventive of Cruelty against Animals (RSPCA) 2017 calendar.
The RSPCA of PNG 2017 calendar photo shoot featured furry friends, musicians and models.
Under the RSPCA’s “It’s Cool to Care’’ campaign, it highlights the trendy and fun aspects of owning and adopting a pet.
RSPCA PNG General Manager Alice Currey said the photo shoot featured models and musicians that had PNG connections.
She said the 2016 RSPCA calendar sold out 1000 copies and the 2017 calendar was expected to receive support of 12 local businesses who would sponsor a month of the calendar.
“The proceeds from the sale will help to cover the cost of production and also promote the work of RSPCA to treat and rehouse stray animals in Port Moresby.”
Renowned PNG musician Mereani Masani said she was really excited to take part in the photo shoot for RSPCA and to support charity work.
“When I was growing up, I had pets and loved animals.”
Operation Manager of Trends Hair and Beauty Salon, Barber and Tattoo shop, Danny Yin said Trends Hair and Beauty Salon was happy to support this project because it was for a worthy cause.
“It truly is “Cool to Care”. Trends is proud to say that we support different charities on a global scale. We didn’t hesitate when we were approached.
“Over the years we have noticed a big decline of stray dogs in the city. This is a positive achievement and we know it to be important and healthy for the animals and also for us as humans. We salute RSPCA.’’
Australian-based fashion photographer Steven Park from 56fotos, an international photographer, was happy to shoot for the RSPCA calendar.
The musicians who took part in the photo shoot included Alyson Joyce, Mereani Masani, dAdiigii and Jacob Ilave.
The fifteen dogs, cats, puppies and kittens were also models.
RSPCA PNG Vice President and calendar director, Matthew Park, said the aim of the calendar was to promote the adoption programme of stray animals and to raise community awareness of animal rights and welfare.
“The current adoption rate is 5 to 6 dogs and 3 cats are adopted per month”.
The calendar is expected to go on sale in October and copies can be obtained by contacting the RSPCA of PNG on phone 325 2363 or by visiting the clinic on Waigani Drive Corner, Kunai Street.
RSPCA would like to acknowledge the support of 56fotos, all the musicians and models, including Sylvia Pascoe and Diane Pook, Trends Hair and Beauty Salon, Laguna Hotel, Kokoda Trail Hotel and CHM Supersound Studios for their participation in this project.
The RSPCA of PNG is a charity organisation that is very dependent on the support of the community and local businesses.
