Musicians should stay true to unique qualities
The National, Tuesday May 13th, 2014
I WOULD like to add on to what Ben of Waigani had expressed regarding music in the letter “Chase after your dreams” (May 7).
PNG musician need to grow out of the computer mindsets and start producing live recordings with the wide range of musical instruments available to them, which I believe most of our recording studies have.
To be successful and tap the overseas market, our traditional musical instruments can be used alongside with modern instruments to add a new taste to some tired ears.
If you recall back in the early days, the likes of Sanguma Band and Tambaran Culture were popular throughout the world with their style of traditional but contemporary music, which was unique to the world.
But today, musicians sit at their computers and use music software like FL Studio, Reason and Adobe Audition to produce records.
Everything created was nothing new and you can hardly tell the difference between artists.
The music industry also needs government intervention to boost the morale of our struggling musicians who do not think far.
All they care about is to be popular.
They do not know that real musicians earn a living through music and a really serious about their compositions.
