STATE Enterprise Minister Sasindran Muthuvel aims to analyse, restructure and cut costs so that State-owned enterprises (SOE) can make profits.
“For now my aim is simple – to analyse where all SOEs are and how we can restructure and cut costs to make them profitable,” he said.
He said the SOEs must contribute to the national budget or at least grow and be competitive with private businesses.
“I expect nothing less than the reality check. What is the real current situation of all SOEs, their debt levels, competitiveness in the field and the possibility of turning them around and run them (like) corporate entities rather than as government departments,” he said. Muthuvel was the Governor of West New Britain before being named by Marape in the new Cabinet.
The provincial assembly would meet soon to elect a new governor from the other two MPs in the province.
He thanked Prime Minister James Marape for giving him a Cabinet position which not only acknowledged the people of West New Britain but also all governors.
He thanked the people of West New Britain for electing him Governor.
“I will never forget WNB though I have accepted the call to serve our nation in nation building and I beg your understanding to use my skill not only to help WNB but the entire country,” he said.
