WEST New Britain Governor Sasindran Muthuvel presented K60,000 to Telikom PNG for the roll-out of the Clean Information Technology for the Hoskins Secondary School online library.

Telikom acting chief executive officer Martin Veisame said education was the backbone for the success of a country’s future and PNG students and teachers should be properly equipped with the right learning and teaching tools for progressive results.

He said while the Telikom Foundation aims at rolling out the Clean IT programme, partners from external stakeholders who valued their vision to drive education through Information technology were welcome to partner with them.

He said the Clean IT programme is an online library which gives students and teachers access to educational websites to enhance their learning and teaching resources.

“Websites such as Wikipedia, Britannica, World Map, Teachers Resources, Biology and Geography are available on the IT library,” he said.

He said with Clean IT Online Library, students are blocked off from accessing entertainment and social media sites.

The project has been successfully rolled out by the Telikom Foundation to more than 20 schools in the country.

Muthuvel said they were happy to partner with Telikom as internet access was a huge challenge for them.

He said the province would want to expand it to other schools in the province and called on other network service providers to partner with them to do this.

He said their vision was to get about 80% of the province to have access to good communication.

“Telikom is our very own state-owned enterprise and there is no reason why every MP cannot work with them to rollout this vital programme,” he said.
