Governors of all provinces are being urged to provide the necessary budget support for their respective teams to travel to Kimbe for the PNG Games in November.
In making the appeal, West New Britain Governor Sasindran Muthuvel said governors and other MPs should assist their teams with adequate funding and start making travel arrangements early.
Muthuvel said this is because some provinces had longer distances to travel and logistics would be a challenge with many athletes.
The national flag carrier Air Niugini, as the official carrier of the Games, is offering subsidised fares.
Muthuvel invited sports officials from the provinces to travel to Kimbe to sort out their accommodation arrangements.
He said each province, through their sporting authorities, should travel to Kimbe and choose appropriate accommodation for their teams.
“We will be working closely with the host organising committee to charge minimum standard rates in all schools.”
All provinces will cater for their own food and accommodation costs, including logistics.
Muthuvel made the appeal after touring the facilities and the venue sites with Sports Minister Justin Tkatchenko, who praised WNB for its building of the international standard facilities from scratch.
Tkatchenko appealed to the governors to support their teams to participate at the PNG Games in Kimbe, which will run from November 26 to December 10.
