WEST New Britain Governor Sasindran Muthuvel has assured the people in drought-affected areas especially in the Bali-Vitu Local Level Government that they will be assisted.
He said the Provincial Disaster Office is working with the National Disaster and Emergency Department to process reports from affected areas.
Muthuvel said the disaster office was assessing the damage in the province to determine how much relief supplywas needed for each affected area.
He thanked the Government for providing relief support for the Bali Vitu Islands which are the worst affected area.
Food gardens and water sources have been damaged.
He urged the people to remain calm and stay positive during the El Nino period. “We shall exercise our rights and together will remain spirited in our approach to minimise the impact of this prolonged drought,” he said.
He also acknowledged the valued contributions of development partners in dealing with the drought.
