MOTOR Vehicles Insurance Limited (MVIL) yesterday presented a sponsorship of K250,000 to the Papua New Guinea National Rugby League Competition (PNGNRLC) to support Digicel Cup match officials.
The sponsorship will cover touch judges, referees and time keepers of the semi-professional competition for the remainder of the 2021 season.
MVIL managing director Michael Makap said during the presentation that it was a fitting platform to deliver road safety messages and the sponsorship was a good investment.
“MVIL is sponsoring PNGNRLC referees because we are getting good coverage, that’s number one,” Makap said.
“I understand that this sponsorship is coming in close to the finals, but PNGNRLC had continued to advertise MVIL with referee uniforms since the start of the competition regardless of not us participating.
“I thank PNGNRLC and the PNG Rugby Football League (PNGRFL) for that.
“The K250,000 we are giving is the same as that of last year.
“Although finals football is coming up, we are confident that we’ll get mileage from this sponsorship.
“Most importantly, we are using this platform to promote the importance of rules and abiding by them.
“Both rugby league and driving have rules and we are advocating on following those rules.”
PNGNRLC chairman Adrian Chow thanked MVIL for the support.
“These are difficult times with our economy struggling, but we are grateful for the continued support from MVIL,” he said.
“We will continue to deliver road safety messages through our franchises, players and supporters.”
