THE Motor Vehicle Insurance Ltd will set up an office in Manus following the signing of an agreement with the provincial government.
Chief executive officer Joe Wemin said Manus was the final province to have an operation established. Since 2012, the company has set up offices in the 22 provinces.
“This partnership (between MVIL and Manus) will allow us to administer the registration component and raise the profile of the province,” he said.
“We have a system in place that we can manage for the Manus provincial government.
“At the end of the day we want to bring the services right to our people and create opportunities for employment.
“In 2014, there was a 50.6 per cent growth in business which meant there were (economic) activities going on in the province.
“This only meant that more vehicles were being imported into the province.”
Wemin, who is the chairman of National Road Safety Council, said the council and the Transport Department would boost their presence in the province to help earn revenue for the Government. Since 2013, the MVIL has invested about K500,000 to upgrade the dongas (transportable building) near the Manus provincial government office.
Provincial administrator Andrew Posong said the dongas were left behind by the Australian High Commission for the Manus government to use.
