CLIMATE change advocate Latin N’Drihin has walked 210,950 steps around Lihir Island and he is preparing for another walk from Kavieng to Namatanai in New Ireland.

Speaking from Kavieng, N’Drihin said the Lihir and Kavieng walks would be the final leg of his stamina endurance challenge in PNG in preparation for his walk around the world over the next five years.

During the walk, N’Drihin visited schools as well as communities to conduct climate change awareness.

“I realised that most students in schools and people in various communities that I conduct awareness know little about what climate change was all about; surely more climate change awareness needed to be conducted in rural villages,” he said.

N’Drihin said the Lihir walk started on May 6 and ended on May 29 because most of his effort was spent in conducting awareness on issues on the environment and the eco-system.

He added that the Wildlife Conservation Society would launch the Kavieng-Namatanai walk on Thursday.

“Kavieng-Namatanai is 263km and I will walk total of 526km from Kavieng to Namatanai and back. All activities conducted along the way will be recorded,” he said

N’Drihin said that his global walk would begin in April 2014 from Vanimo to Jayapura but he had yet to secure a major sponsor to enable him to conduct climate change awareness.
