NATIONAL Alliance Party president Simon Kaiwi says Prime Minister Peter O’Neill should tell the truth about the government’s financial position.
Responding to O’Neill’s criticisms of Angoram MP Arthur Somare, Kaiwi said O’Neill was a core part of the team that put together the LNG project.
“The LNG project is a credit to the Somare government that brought in the largest investment to date to PNG,” Kaiwi said.
“We acknowledge the confidence that ExxonMobil have in PNG to take out the largest loan in the company’s history to invest here.
“It is now up to O’Neill if he wants to continue as a leader to behave like one and ensure that landowners are taken care of by the appropriate departments so the project can go ahead and the people of PNG and ExxonMobil can together reap the benefits of this major investment in 2014.
“We expect and demand better and more responsible leadership than what we have witnessed to date from O’Neill.
“The world is watching PNG and our ability to take care of investors and their investments in this country.
“Our utterances must be honest and responsible to avoid harm and negative impact on the project.
“I call on O’Neill to respond to Somare’s concern that there will not be any money in the government coffers come August this year.
“O’Neill must tell PNG the truth.”
about the government’s current financial position,” Kaiwi said.
