NAC wants police investigations to continue

THE National Airports Corporation (NAC) wants police investigations into its operations and management to continue despite the suspension of a senior investigator.
Acting managing director and chief executive officer Rex Kiponge raised this concern following the suspension of detective Snr Const Smith Morikia last month.
Snr Const Smith Morikia Morikia was investigating an allegation into the misappropriation of a contract payment totalling more than K100,000 for a NAC staff housing maintenance and repair contract.
He was suspended last month on allegations of serious disciplinary misconduct.
Kiponge said the investigation was approved by the NAC shareholders and board of directors.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP Crimes) Hodges Ette said in a letter that the suspension was based on serious allegations against Snr Const Morikia.
ACP Ette said he was allegedly receiving fees and benefits as direct payments for an investigation currently undertaken without authorisation from the Office of the Police Commissioner.
