A DECISION will be made on Friday on whether to resume flights into Wapenamanda airport in Enga, according to the National Airports Corporation (NAC).
NAC managing director and chief executive officer Rex Kiponge said the airport still remained closed following vandalism this month.
“The Notam (notice to airmen) will be reviewed on Friday this week,” he said.
The Wapenamanda airport was closed on July 8 following the spilling of oil along with broken bottles at sections of the runway on the night of July 7 be unknown persons.
NAC then issued a Notam to airline operators not to fly into Wapenamanda.
“Wapenamanda is still closed, and no arrest has been made since,” Kiponge said.
Kiponge condemned the incident which had impacted the travelling public.
He reminded the public that vandalism at the airport was a breach of civil aviation laws and a criminal offence and NAC would not tolerate such behaviour.
Last month, a similar incident occurred at Mt Hagen’s Kagamuga airport were perpetrators spilled oil on the runway.
