Namah questions PM’s use of Falcon jet

OPPOSITION Leader Belden Namah has questioned why Prime Minister James Marape used the Falcon jet on his recent trip to Fiji and New Zealand after he had said to use commercial flights on official trips.
“At the start of his term (as prime minister), he declared that he would only fly in economy class for official travel,” Namah said.
“However, he flew in economy class on only one occasion – to Singapore. Every flight since has been in Business Class or on the Falcon private jet.”
Marape had said before his trip to Fiji and NZ last week that the Falcon jet, which once belonged to the Government, was now owned and operated by Air Niugini.
He was using it in an arrangement with the airline.
He also said his next trip to Solomon Islands would be on Air Niugini.
But Namah said Marape had admitted in a social media post that he had been using the Falcon jet on trips after flight records were leaked online.
“Why is he again breaking his word and breaking his commitment? Air Niugini flies to Fiji, and he could have used other commercial airlines to go to New Zealand, Australia and then back to Port Moresby.
“No matter what financial arrangements might have changed in relation to the Falcon jet and Air Niugini, the Falcon is not economy class or business class. It is First Class. And this is not an emergency,” he said.
