Namah wants speaker to be impartial

PARLIAMENT speaker Jeffery Nape has been called on to perform his duty responsibly and in accordance with the standing orders of parliament and the constitution.
Vanimo-Green MP Belden Namah said the opposition was ready to move a vote of no-confidence against Prime Minister Sir Michael Somare in next month’s session of parliament, but Nape must play a neutral role.
He also called on government MPs to realise that they were being used by a minority where decisions were allegedly made by the Somare family.
Namah, a former minister, also challenged leaders to stand tall and allow their conscious to dictate their decisions.
He said PNG deserved better, “not a dictatorship by a family that seemed to think that it owned the country”.
“Leaders know what is happening and who makes the decisions but, yet, allow it to continue.
“I am calling on them to have guts and help remove the seemingly family business.”
Namah, who spearheaded a recent move to remove Sir Michael, said leaders, including Nape, must decide what was good for PNG ahead of their own interests.
He also called on heads of government institutions to play their roles responsibly and weed out corruption.
“Tomorrow’s future depends on today’s decisions, and I am calling on the bureaucrats and politicians to make that decision for the future of this country,” Namah said.
