JOEL Alu has been appointed managing director of the National Agriculture Quarantine and Inspection Authority.

Alu was appointed by the National Executive Council for a four-year term effective from December 2015.

Alu, from Pawapi village in Southern Highlands, is a lawyer by profession and previously worked with the Department of Agriculture and Livestock as a legal officer.

He had been acting in the position in the past 23 months.

“I am calling on all officers to work with me and give me the same support previously demonstrated to achieve greater things for our organisation,” Alu said.

He acknowledged the continued support, cooperation and understanding from clients, the general public, stakeholders and the national and provincial agencies involved in border management, trade and agriculture.

“So much of what we have achieved is a direct result of their efforts and we will continue to need their support and input to take NAQIA to new heights.”
