MOROBE Governor Kelly Naru has thanked the Lae business community for their contributions to churches in the province.

He particularly thanked companies in Lae that contributed to support the Evangelical Lutheran Church delegation from Morobe attending the church synod on Karkar Island, Madang.

The delegation includes pastors, church elders and women leaders. A few provincial executive council members are joining the delegation which is travelling by boat to the island north of Madang town.

Naru will attend the synod opening on Sunday and closing the following week.

He thanked Madang Governor Jim Kas, Sumkar MP Ken Fairweather and church members in Madang for hosting the biennial event.

“Finschhafen was the generic of the Lutheran Church in country but the membership in islands like Karkar, Umboi and Siassi truly demonstrate their faith and courage over 139 years of the church history,” Naru said.

He re-affirmed the Morobe government’s commitment of 10% of its revenue to be given to churches.

It budgeted for K5 million for the Morobe provincial government church partnership programme.

It is chaired by Charlie Foike, who leads provincial government business committee.
