Nasfund celebrates Women’s Day, highlights equality

THE National Superannuation Fund Ltd (Nasfund) has joined the world in commemorating International Women’s Day (IWD) 2022.
With the Global theme “Break the bias – gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow”, Nasfund celebrated the contribution of Papua New Guinea’s women in playing a leading role in promoting retirement savings through superannuation.
Chief executive officer Ian Tarutia said celebrating IWD was important as more women were entering into fields usually dominated by men, on their own merit.
“At Nasfund we are proud of our female colleagues for their contribution towards the success of our organisation at all levels, from the board room, management and operations in the delivery of services to our members,” he said.
“We are proud that the gender mix of our workforce is 56 per cent female, and 44 per cent male.
“Our women colleagues have contributed significantly to the continued growth and success of the fund.
“Current data from the superannuation industry indicates that approximately 10 per cent of PNG’s eight million people contribute to superannuation retirement savings.
“For Nasfund, female contributors make up 24 per cent of our total membership. This includes women within the formal sector (22 per cent) and voluntary contributors through our Eda Supa product (2 per cent).
“What is even more pleasing is that we have close to 20 women who have accumulated retirement savings of close to a million kina each – these are women who have understood to the importance of saving, and are a shining example of what can be achieved.
“We celebrate their perseverance, and encourage more women to start savings more today, so that you can be ready for tomorrow.”
In line with this year’s theme, the fund will engage with all-girls secondary schools to celebrate the barriers women within the fund have overcome in society and businesses, as well as drive the message of financial inclusion and superannuation awareness.
