Nasfund hosts Hagen meet
The National, Friday March 28th, 2014
NASFUND is hosting its third annual employer conference in Mt Hagen today to update employers of the superfund’s performance last year.
The conference, which was being hosted annually in the four regions (Southern, Mamose, Highlands and Islands), aimed to update employers of the fund’s annual performance through its business activities and addresses areas of concerns.
Chief executive Ian Tarutia during Port Moresby and Lae conferences, stressed that superannuation should be universal and not just limited to companies with 15 employees or more.
He said only 500,000 out of a working population of two million in PNG had a nest to look forward to after active employment.
“What about the rest of the population?” he said.
“The fund’s intention this year is to increase further to ensure the masses had a safety net they could lean on post-employment,” Tarutia said.
He said: “Growth of superannuation savings is far more beneficial to individuals in the long run through the effect of compound interest compared to bank account savings.
The management team was in Lae last Friday were 101 employers attended.
Employers who attended said they were happy to see top management of the fund present to them last year’s statistics and graphs that showed a strong investment portfolio and to assure that the funds were well looked after.
