Nasfund members getting discounts on hospital services

MEMBERS of the National Superannuation Fund (nasfund) are entitled to discounts on services provided by the Pacific International Hospital after a deal was signed on a healthcare partnership.
They include:

  • 50 per cent discount on general practice consultations;
  • 50 per cent on specialist consultation;
  • 20 per cent discount on laboratory and radiology services;
  • 20 per cent discount on total cost for in-patient;
  • 10 per cent on pharmacy services;
  • Free eye checks; and,
  • Free dental checks.

Nasfund chief executive officer Ian Tarutia said the partnership was in the best interest of members as the hospital was well established and resourced.
Tarutia said health had become a number one focus for the people.
“We cannot continue to rely on the government to provide this essential service to our people,” he said.
“It is up to us to also be part of the solution.
“This intent of this partnership is to stretch the Kina through the discount offered.” He said the economic environment was tough with businesses contracting.
“So the timing for this partnership for us has been right on,” Tarutia said.
“We will take every opportunity to ensure that your health is protected,” he said.
Hospital chairman Sir Moi Avei said the hospital looked forward to the partnership.

  • Well done Nasfund for this partnership. Are they planning on doing the same for other private clinics right throughout other provincial capitals apart from Port Moresby

  • Health department or ACCC must set a standard fee for medical services provided by private practitioners and hospitals.
    Otherwise NSAFUND will go broke.

  • Most of the NASFUND members are existing employees of various companies and up to about 80% of the hospital costs are covered by insurance. Can NASFUND only look at offsetting the balance only so that the members pay nothing. In my view, NASFUND members will take any Tom, Dick and Harry to the hospital to make side coins for themselves and hence NASFUND will lose alot of money considering the cost of services offered at Paradise Hospital. 50% discount is too much, I fear NASFUND may not make enough profit and may result in less interest payout to the members.

  • PIH medical fees charged hefty fees and very unnecessary. The fees must be affordable to members of all NASFUND at rates indicated by the NASFUND.ALTHOUGH AT 50% discount the fees, it will be still high for some low income earners members because fees for various medical needs at PIH are very high.

  • Daudaii Boii, I fully agree with what you stated. 50% discount will not make any difference as fees charged at PIH are excessive.
