THE Poro debit card will be Nasfund Contributors Savings and Loan Society’s (NCSL) leader in digital transaction this year, chief executive officer Vari Lahui says.
Speaking during the society’s annual general meeting in Port Moresby on Thursday, Lahui said there had been 34,427 (Poro card) transactions processed since its launching last June. While providing an update on the terminals, he said 183 terminals were installed across the country and 362 terminals were earmarked for installation.
Lahui further noted that terminals would be installed at Papindo and City Pharmacy Ltd group stores.
“Since the launch, we have issued over 32,555 Poro cards that are currently in the market and there are a lot more cards to be issued,” he said.
“We’ve invested a lot on our electronic channels.
“Our electronic team is on the road everyday making sure that the terminals are working so that our members with Poro cards can do their transactions.
“With the trend we are seeing, the numbers on the Poro card transactions continue to grow and we are just about to commission a terminal monitoring system which means that the electronic banking team will not have to go to every single shop to check whether our terminals are working.
“We will have a system in place and the system will tell us which terminals are not working and we will go straight to those shops and make sure those terminals are up and running.
“These smarter ways of looking after the system to ensure that we are focusing on digital planning for our members.”
Lahui said there were two types of Poro card transaction: us on us, that is when members use their Poro cards on NCSL terminals; and them on us, that is when other commercial bank cards are used on NCSL terminals.
