Nation’s capital getting more than its fair share

 I AM saddened to read about four people missing in Hela when trying to cross the fast flowing Strickland River due to lack of proper bridge. 

Yet in the nation’s capital we are rejoicing and boasting about the new Kumul Flyover and world class sports facilities and all the four-lane roads, which mean nothing to the rural people and do not benefit them except for a minority who are privileged to work and live in Port Moresby. 

Even my very own village people still don’t have a proper bridge to enable them easy access to transport their cash crop produce to town for selling for the past 20 years or so and many have been struggling due to bad road conditions. 

This government is hell-bent in building more expensive fly-overs in Port Moresby in the next few years, which would be a very unfair distribution in terms of government service delivery. 

This is a big slap in the face of all the rural population. 

PNG’s vision to develop as a nation may never be achieved if major development is concentrated Port Moresby only. 

Otherwise, the rich will get richer and the poor will get poorer.
