SHADOW Minister for Health and HIV/AIDS Elias Kapavore says the recovery rate from the Coronavirus (Covid-19) is nearly 99 per cent given that 29,650 people had recovered from 30,036 cases.
Kapavore, who is the Pomio MP, said he supported the call by Chief Ombudsman Richard Pangen “to respect the rights of citizens on the Covid-19 vaccines”. He said: “We adhere to the Niupla Pasin protocols and respect the rights of those who do not wish to be vaccinated.”
However, he would like the same attention afforded to the Covid-19 to be given to other health issues.
“We have other health issues that must be given the same attention by the Government and the Department of Health rather than focusing on the Covid-19 alone,” he said.
The “no jab, no job” move by the private sector prompted the Ombudsman Commission to call on the private sector to act with caution when it came to the Constitutional rights of citizens regarding mandatory vaccination.
“While the commission is mindful of the private sector’s rights and obligation to protect their businesses, we urge them to come up with arrangements that do not infringe on people’s right to choose,” Pangen said.
