Natural resources

Letters

NATURAL resources generate over 70 per cent of PNG’s export revenue.
We also have fisheries, copra and coffee – just to name a few.
Despite all that we have, regardless of how blessed this country is, the Government still has not enabled an improved standard of living for our people.
Our resources have not been managed well by our leaders. We never even made an attempt to change the laws that govern the development of these resources.
These are not our laws as we merely adopted them.
The country’s revenue has continued to grow over the past 10 years, but expenditure has blown out so much that the economy is sinking
More Government buildings have closed because of non-payment of rental bills, more Papua New Guineans without jobs or simply losing their jobs, our currency has dropped drastically, and many are asking what will happen to public servants’ salaries in the long run.
Is our Government broke?
Local and foreign companies have reduced their staff sizes or closed their doors completely.
We may not have quality leadership in Parliament which can turn the ship around. Right now, our leaders must join hands and work together.
This isn’t about Government against Opposition: It’s about demanding honesty and integrity from our leaders.
