The Port Moresby Nature Park has received a cheque for K15,000 from Paga Hill Estate to help fund the construction of a new parrot conservation aviary.
Paga Hill Estate’s chief executive Gudmundur Fridriksson said the park beautify the city and was an important community asset.
“We are happy to support the Nature Park for its educational and conservational messages,” Fridriksson said.
Nature Park’s general manager Michelle McGeorge thanked Fridriksson for his support and said that as a charitable organisation, the park’s goal of achieving excellent recreational spaces and delivery of conservation, research and education programmes was possible through the generosity of sponsors like Paga Hill Estate. The parrot aviary will play a part in educating more than 22,000 students on the threats to PNG’s parrot species and provide a breeding and research
space to gain a better understanding of parrot behaviour and psychology.
