THE Nawaeb district showed its support for Team Morobe by donating K20,000 towards the champion province’s preparations for the PNG Games in the National Capital District next month.
Nawaeb MP Timothy Bonga also presented a cheque of K10,000 from Mabey & Johnson.
At a meeting on Monday, Bonga and members of the Joint District Planning and Budget Priorities Committee for Nawaeb presented the cheques to the general team manager Bob Aaron.
Administrator Kemas Tomala was also present to witness the presentation in Lae.
Tomala said he was grateful of the effort made by the Nawaeb district to support the team and encouraged other districts to do likewise, as the team would be representing  Morobe province.
He also said “time was the greatest enemy” in the fundraising campaign and urged players to pay their registration fees as well as keeping up with their training schedules.
Bonga encouraged companies within Lae to show their support towards the team.
He said financial support was needed as many of the players were unfortunate and unemployed.
However, he said the team was ready and would defend its title in full force.
Team Morobe raised a total of K159,100 from a corporate dinner last Friday.
The money raised was from tickets, donations and pledges.
This money will be used to buy airline tickets, accommodation, meals and transport for the athletes and officials travelling to Port Moresby.
A second corporate dinner will be staged in the nation’s capital on the third week of this month.
The PNG Games are scheduled for Nov 19-28.
