Nayos wants Morobe to have division for law and order

MOROBE needs a division of law and justice to coordinate all agencies of the sector in the province, a provincial executive member says.
Hube council president Kiwas Nayos says the provincial administration did not have a programme adviser responsible for the sector.
Nayos raised this concern during a recent festive period neighbourhood crime watch awareness programme in Lae city settlements.
He said a proper law and order division would:

  • Source direct funding from the government to oversee, monitor, coordinate and implement law and order in province;
  • work in collaboration with police, the Correctional Services and courts to strategise law enforcement;
  • establish an umbrella body to monitor and coordinate the functions of law and order in partnership with various donor agencies, NGO’s, churches and community-based organisations; and,
  • Ensure collation of data to enable the creation of uniform community by-laws for city settlements and LLGs.

Nayos said a law and justice office would ensure that funding allocated for the function would not be spent elsewhere by the provincial administration.
