NBC chairman responds to appointment comments
NATIONAL Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) chairman Timothy Tala says the Government had reappointed him for a second term in July 2017.
“This means my term as chairman of the NBC board will end on July 17, 2020,” he said.
Tala was responding to a statement by Minister for Information, Communication and Energy Rainbo Paita that the term of the board had expired.
“I was reappointed by the National Executive Council for a second term,” he said.
“The National Gazette signed by the governor-general states that my term was renewed for another three years on July 18, 2017.
“I did not reappoint myself.”
Tala said Paita might have been given the wrong information by the NBC management.
He said the term of the deputy chairman of the board was also current but the terms of three board members had expired.
He also denied reports that the NBC has sold a piece of land at 5-Mile illegally.
“There is a rigorous process we are required to follow if we are to sell any NBC land, which we have followed on this piece of land,” he said.
“We worked with the Department of Lands, the National Capital District Commission, the Internal Revenue Commission and other State agencies to ensure everything was above board.”
“NBC plans to build a new office at 5-Mile.”
