National Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) staff throughout the country were not paid last week, acting managing director Kora Nou says.
Finance secretary Dr Ken Ngangan said  he was not aware of the non-payment of NBC staff and would check on it.
Nou told The National yesterday that NBC and Parliament staff were normally paid on the Tuesday of the non-government pay week, but this did not eventuate last week.
“I sympathise with the staff and their families for not getting paid on Friday,” he said.
“Warrants for June were released late on Thursday but were not processed by Friday.
“We were assured that payments would be done by Monday (today), but failing that, I will follow up with Bank of Papua New Guinea and Vulupindi (Finance),” Nou said.
He said last Monday was a public holiday and warrants could not have been processed resulting in the non-payment.
Nou said this was the second time this had happened this year, the first being in February due to some internal problems within NBC.
Ngangan said: “I am not aware of that so let me check and I will get back to you.”
NBC is the largest national broadcaster in Papua New Guinea with free-to-air television and national radio.
The NBC has played an important role since its establishment 43 years ago, in informing and educating people on national and world events.
