THE National Capital District Boxing Association (NCDBA) is staging its boxing trials weekend at Ben Moide Club this weekend, to select its team for the upcoming national championships in Port Moresby.
NCDBA vice-president Smith Yonny said the trials would be held for three consecutive Sundays, starting this weekend.
Yonny urged all the clubs to get their boxers in top shape and medically fit before they could be allowed to compete in the trials.
He said NCD were former champions and wanted to pick the best team to help regain some lost pride at the Dec 9-13 event.
Yonny said he was working with coach Mark Keto, who led the national boxing contingent to this year’s Pacific Games in Samoa.
He is appealing to corporate and government partners to back his team to deliver the championships.
Yonny made a special appeal to NCD Governor Powes Parkop, through his NCDC Sports Desk, to support the championships.
NCDBA was asked by the Papua New Guinea Boxing Union to stage the championships after Rabaul withdrew as host.
Yonny and Keto can be contacted on 75465120 and 76418566 respectively.
Meanwhile, the NCDBA vice-president has urged all local associations wishing to take part to contact PNG Boxing Union tournament director Dick Larry on 76529630 or general secretary Dr Gideon Kendino on 72955944 to register their interest.
