THE National Fisheries Authority has imposed an immediate ban on the harvesting of beche-de-mer in the National Capital District and Central.
Authority managing director John Kasu said the calculated total allowable catch (TAC) had been reached in the two areas.
“This notice is issued in accordance with the requirement under clause 9 (f) of the national fisheries beche-de-mer management plan 2018 (G368) to all fishers (men and women), buyers and exporters and the general public engaged in the beche-de-mer fishery in NCD and Central,” Kasu said.
“The calculated total allowable catch for the NCD/ Central has been reached.
“NFA now declares that the harvesting of sea cucumbers in the province will cease immediately as of Sept 18. Fishermen and fisherwomen who have in their possession any dry beche-de-mer must sell the products to a licensed buyer by Monday Sept 28 (inclusive).
“Anyone harvesting or collecting and selling after Sept 18 will be deemed illegal and perpetrators will be prosecuted.”
