WITH the sponsorship of K20,000, the National Capital District Governor’s Cup will  held from  Dec 23-27.
NCD Suburban rugby league chairman Billy Aki said yesterday that the challenge would provide an avenue to participate rather than engaging in illegal activities over the festive season.
He said the success of the competition over the last three years had prompted the NCD Governor Powes Parkop to allocate funds for this year’s event.
He added that the challenge was restricted to leagues and players participating in the off season leagues.
Aki also said the concept of this tournament was to give the players the opportunity to showcase their talents and had  the chance to be promoted to a higher level of competition, and ultimately, PNG’s semi-professional rugby league competition, the inter-city  Cup challenge.
He added that there woiuld be a window of opportunity for players competing in the Port Moresby rugby league competition.
However, he stressed that those participating in the semi-professional rugby league competition would not be eligible to participate in the tournament.
