NCD needs more roads
The National, Thursday 29th of November, 2012
THE recent budget presented by Treasurer Don Polye looks promising.
However, there is one point that needs an urgent review – the excise duty on all imported cars.
The government’s decision stems from its endeavour to curtail road congestion.
Is this reason justifiable?
From my observation, people resort to such tactics because they want cheap, easy and quick fixes on issues for which the government is responsible.
To own a car is every taxpayer’s right.
The demand for cars is an indication of a thriving economy and is part of development.
For a government to stop such development is not right.
The NCDC should invest in quality roads.
The taxpayers are also anxious to know where millions of kina allocated to NCDC are spent as there are no new major roads in the capital for the past few years.
