The National Capital District will now have a free service mobile medical clinic, courtesy of Paradise Private Hospital in partnership with NCD Governor Powes Parkop.
The medical team from Paradise Private Hospital, under managing director Dr Misi Lam, will operate using a bus, with all their equipment.
The service will be provided every Wednesday from 9am to 1pm starting next week at different locations around the city.
The new service is the first of its kind in the country and will offer free medical consultation and treatment for communities in NCD.
It was launched yesterday at Ragamuga, 6-Mile, Port Moresby.
PNG Gardener assisted in the logistics and organising of the new service.
Records of patients examined will be submitted to the Department of Health, while serious cases will be refered to appropriate hospitals.
Parkop said he was happy with Lam’s initiative which was at Paradise Private Hospital’s own expense.
“This service is not aimed at competing with health services that are already in place but to support them,” Parkop said.
He said that health was still a big challenge in NCD and urged people to control their eating and drinking habits.
Director for reforms at the PNG Vision 2050 centre Ephraim Sukbat said one of the things Vision 2050 urged was public-private partnership.
“This new service is applying this requirement, which we are happy with,” Sukbat said.
