PUBLIC Motor Vehicle (PMV) and taxi operators in the nation’s capital have been urged to renew their licences three to four weeks before the expiry date or face consequences.
This warning was issued by land transport manager of enforcement operations Herman Wakia yesterday.
He said delay in notice to the land transport department further delayed the renewal of PMV and taxi operator licences which meant many drivers on the road were without their current vehicle registration.
Wakia stressed that the procedures involved was lengthy and encouraged PMV and taxi drivers to make known to the department concerned three or four weeks in advance.
“This involves one-week vehicle inspection and another week for licence processing,” he said.
“The operators at fault will be arrested by the traffic police division if caught and no excuses will be tolerated,” he said
He said the licence registration for six months renewal fee for PMVs was K115 and taxi  K100.
Meanwhile, 77 officers will undertake the Christmas and New Year special operation by inspecting road worthy vehicles within NCD, then to Central and Gulf.
The land transport department will work alongside Motor Vehicle Insurance (MVIL), traffic office, NCD, National Road Authority (NRA) and other relevant stakeholders.
