THE National Capital District has vaccinated 8,000 women and children for measles and tetanus toxoid.
NCD public health services director Dr Niko Wuatas yesterday urged those who had yet to be immunised to do so.
Wuatas hopes there will be an increase in the number of people vaccinated by the end of the week.
He said there were fixed and mobile sites driving the supplementary immunisation activity.
Launched last month, the campaign aims at immunising women between the ages of 15 to 45 years to protect them from tetanus and to vaccinate all children under three years from measles.
Wuatas said it was a huge task but they had more than 300 mobile teams at various locations to run the programme.
He said the vaccines were free-of-charge and available at all the urban clinics.
Some mobile sites are at Gordon, 8-Mile, Hanuabada and St Michael Primary School.
Morata, Ensisi Valley and Pari, Kerema compound. Kila Kila and Koki.
He welcomed companies that wanted to have their staff vaccinated to contact NCD personnel, Alice Vaii and Susan Nalu on 325 4226.
The campaign, which started on April 2, will run until May 15. It will take place in all health facilities nationwide.
The nationwide campaign by the Department of Health will see about 800,000 children given measles oral polio vaccine and 1.8 million girls and women being protected against tetanus toxoid.
