MORE comfort and care needs to be given to a mother and child for them to recover and get well quickly.
NCD Governor Powes Parkop said this during a donation of linens by his wife Jean and a women’s group to ward  9 of the Port Moresby General Hospital last Friday.
“If we practise preventable health care, then they will be in a good state to recover from their sicknesses,” he said.
He said women and children were the most vulnerable in the community.
While handing over the linens, Jean said it was a family donation to the women of this ward after all the hard work they had done to make sure that a mother and a child were kept in a comfortable and caring environment.
“I’ve paid visits to this ward and I observed that the hospital needed more bedding and other necessities to cater for the increasing number of mothers in this ward and that is why we tried our best to get all these done on time for this ward,” she said.
The donation came from the women’s own effort and funds from a family project. It comprised of 100 pillows, 198 pillow cases and 174 bed sheets.
It was an early Christmas gift for the mothers in the ward.
Upon receiving the donation, the unit nurse coordinator Sr Jennifer Piakalyia thanked the Parkops for the gesture and said the donation was much appreciated.
However, several concerns were raised by Piakalyia and Dr Apeawusu Amoa saying that the ward was in distress and needed more support, particularly, for mothers.
